Why Not? 650 HP CTS-V Sport Wagon Roasts Michelins, Creates Smoke Screen

When you have your very own 650 horsepower CTS-V Sport Wagon, a couple video cameras and a dragstrip out back, making a gratuitous burnout video — muffler-bypassing exhaust dumps open and all — just seems like the right thing to do (even if it means shaving miles of life out of a pair of beefy Michelin PS2′s in the process).

Hennessey CTS-V Wagon vs. Porsche — Straightline Showdown

The 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon is an American hauler in a league of its own. Destroying images of faux-wood clad cruisers with children staring down followers from rearward-facing seats and giving a nod to the hot rod wagons The General put out when Baby Boomers were still babies.

On its own, the 556 hp supercharged LSA reminds you why the V-Series Cadillac is a world class luxury performer. Boost performance over 100 HP with the Hennessey V650 upgrade, however, and you’re no longer just threatening the status quo of German luxo-sedans for bragging rights, but some of their top performance coupes as well…

Drag strip weather is upon us as late September has ushered in cooler mornings and, for now, has pushed out the choking humidity that has lingered over Gulf Coast Texas most of the summer. That means more racing, testing and fresh track times from our cars in the coming months. It also helps to have your very own 1/4 mile strip (Lonestar Motorsports Park) located behind your shop.

The timing has worked out well with the completion of a new 2011 CTS-V Coupe and its V700 upgrade. We slapped on a set of drag radials and set out earlier this week to see what numbers this cooler air would allow and whether or not OnStar would be chiming in this go-around.

Thanks to the immense low-end torque and stickier tires, the V700 pulled a 1.6 second time to the 60 ft mark, pulling over 1.2 G’s off the line according to the data from our Video VBOX logging software.

That’s a harder launch than our previous  sedan that triggered an OnStar call on more than one occasion. So the question is… did they call us to check on the coupe?

Well… no, actually. In spite of a more visceral launch than before, the system didn’t detect a “vehicle event” as it did last November. It looks like they may have learned from last time (or perhaps they have black-flagged Lonestar as a sort of Bermuda Triangle of false readings). In any case, we’re happy with the way the automatic coupe took off with a vengeance and skirted close to 10′s on pump gas with very little effort while still remaining very streetable.

Check out the 11.1 second pass below, and stay on the lookout for more video of the V700 coupe, including experiencing the in-car footage of this same pass, coming soon.

Since the new 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe arrived at the shop, it has seen the addition of our V650 upgrade, where it put down over 540 horsepower to the rear wheels and now the OnStar-inducing V700 upgrade.

But in addition to the standard V700 package, this V features custom-built electronic exhaust dumps before the muffler for a raucous low rpm rumble and full throttle shrill at the flip of a switch.

With the exhaust cutouts closed, the V700 coupe posted its official numbers 598 rear wheel horsepower and a full 631 lb-ft of torque! This was done through the factory 6-speed automatic on 93 octane pump gas.

Check out the video below for an open-dump dyno pull and test the limits of your computer’s speakers by cranking up the volume to hear one rowdy Caddy.
