Road & Track – "Long Live the Hennessey HPE550 Camaro"

In the “Ampersand” section of the October 2009 issue of Road & Track magazine, the opening headline reads what we’ve all come to learn about the fate of the 2010 Camaro’s top-line performer:
“THE Z28 IS DEAD
LONG LIVE THE HENNESSEY HPE550 CAMARO!“
Their capital-lettered exclamation may not completely soothe the purists hoping the General will eventually slap a Zed on the new Camaro, but it makes clear there is a top option out there for 2010 with its sights set squarely on upsetting the Shelby GT500 and claiming its place among the meanest modern muscle to prowl the street: The 2010 HPE550 Camaro.
You can read the entire article and view the photo gallery here.
The rest of the issue features a 3-way cross country comparison of the new 2010 Camaro SS, Mustang GT and Dodge Challenger R/T, covers the newest cars for 2010 and has a sharp fold out featurette on the Petit Le Mans.
So stop by your local newsstand and pick up this month’s R&T and check out the smoking 2-page spread of the HPE550 Camaro drifting across the pavement, as well as an additional sidebar about the 2010 Hennessey Z700 Corvette ZR1.
Pizza and Horsepower – Papa John's Feeds the HPE650 Camaro

Wednesday night our 2010 HPE650 Camaro rumbled over to the local Papa John’s to take part in the celebration of founder John Schnatter’s successful search for his prized 1971 Z28 – the one he sold to help start his business some 25 years ago.
While waiting for our pizza to come out of the oven, a blast from the past pulled up: a loping gray 1967 Camaro.
A cammed small block, raised intake, Cragar wheels, black rally stripes, and a pair of beefy Mickey Thompson E/T Streets out back, Manny, the car’s owner, had spared this beauty from the rust gods and now cruises it to local events and around the neighborhood.
So there we were, a sharp first-year ’67 alongside one of the meanest 5th generation Camaros on the street: The 592 rwhp supercharged Hennessey HPE650. With a TVS2300 supercharger, pulley, ported heads, an HPE cam, full coilover suspension, American Racing headers, HPE wheels, hydro carbon ground effects and more (all available at our store, by the way), the two cars made for top-notch gawking for old school gearheads and modern muscle lovers alike.

Now where are those leftovers…
